Sri Aurobindo Society – Chennai Branch
With the blessings of the Divine Mother, the Chennai branch of Sri Aurobindo Society was founded in 1964, marking the beginning of a spiritual journey rooted in aspiration and service. The Society first took shape in the serene setting of the Airlines Hotel on Mount Road, Chennai, before moving in 1973 to No. 5, Smith Road, where it continued its work with quiet dedication.
A new chapter unfolded on June 2, 2024, when the Society began functioning from its own premises in Ashoknagar, Chennai—now lovingly known as “The Mother’s Abode.” This sacred space stands as a testament to decades of devotion, collective effort, and the guiding light of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.
On April 4, 2025, the Society joyously celebrated its 61st Anniversary, honoring the legacy and spirit that have sustained it through the years. The event was graced by the presence of Thiru Varadarajan Ayya, the first Joint Secretary of SAS Chennai, Smt. Syamala Amma and Smt. Dhanalakshmi from Auroville, along with senior devotees who shared heartfelt reminiscences of the Society’s early days and its evolution.
The celebration was further enriched by the Presidential Address of Kalaimamani Dr. Tiruppur Krishnan, whose words resonated with wisdom, reverence, and inspiration.
As we reflect on this journey, we offer our gratitude to all who have walked this path with us, and we renew our commitment to the ideals of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother—toward a future of light, peace, and transformation.
